    Sufficient funds allocated for women empowerment

    Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sumedha G Jayasena said in Parliament today that the government had made massive allocation of funds to provide for women including setting up of special women police units to battle against violence against women.

    Participating in the third reading stage debate on budget 2015 under the expenditure headings of the Ministry of Child Development and Women’s Affairs, the minister said action had been taken to establish a women police unit in the Moneragala District, and such units would be set up in all districts in future.

     

    Minister Jayasena said: “Sufficient amount of funds have been allotted to prevent violence against women and child abuse incidents, to provide for women empowerment and early childhood development programmes. Funds have also been allocated to set up child care centres for the women who go abroad for jobs.” (Special Reporter/HC)
