Only 60 Massage Parlors under the Ministry of Indigenous Medicine

Only 60 therapeutic massage parlors are registered with the Ministry of Indigenous Medicine and the Ministry has no authority to regulate the so called other therapeutic massage parlous that are being operated as business entities as the law is no longer strong enough to counteract them said Minister of Indigenous Medicine Salinda Dissanayake.

The Minister responding to a query raised by Parliamentarian P.Harrison further said that there are also massage parlors registered with the Provincial Councils and District Secretaries offices. There is no provision provided in the law to act against these massage parlors.

Therefore the Ministry has already planned to make necessary amendments to the Ayurvedic Act, Minister Dissanayake pointed out.(KH)
