The Government of Sri Lanka has been issuing International Sovereign Bonds since the year 2017 to finance the annual budget and the said Bonds issued up to the year 2018 have been United States denominated Dollars.
As such, the proposal made by Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, the Minister of Finance and Mass Media, to appoint an Officials' Committee comprising of the relevant institutions, to study the possibility of gaining access to the International market with denominated Yen, Renminbi and Euro, for export diversification and attracting Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) within the current economic activities in anticipation of managing the budget financing at a low cost, was approved by the Cabinet.
