According to the Ministry of Disaster Management, 138,292 persons belonging 35,129 families in 158 divisional secretariat in 20 districts have been affected by the floods and landslides while 16 deaths have been reported. One person has disappeared, it was revealed at a media briefing yesterday (25th).
There are 53,616 people of 13,199 families have been displaced due to the disaster and they have been provided with cooked meals and health and sanitary facilities, the Ministry said.The Ministry said the district secretaries have been given Rs, 35.3 million to pay and advance of Rs. 10,000 until the damages to the houses and properties can be evaluated and insurance payments can be made.
The Disaster Management Center meanwhile, says that red alerts issued to five districts will still be in effect.Also, the water level of Attanagalu Oya has increased to the flood level by yesterday (25) evening but if no significant rain fall is received there will be no flood threat. Meanwhile the Army has kept 6000 troops ready to provide flood rescue and relief while the Navy has deployed 201 boats for flood rescue.
