    For the first time in the history a memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Parliament of Sri Lanka and University Grants Commission (UGC)for the research and data mobilization.

    The book titled ''Sri Lanka Parliamentary Elections 1947 to 2015'' was presented to the Speaker of Parliament Hon.  Karu Jayasuriya by The Chairman of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya at the Parliamentary Complex  (24) afternoon. It contains information of impartant content related to elections as well as approximately 70 years of parliamentary election results. 

     

    Ahead of the upcoming 43rd Session of the Human Rights Council (HRC) scheduled to commence  Monday (24 February), Foreign Secretary Ravinatha Aryasinha briefed the President of the HRC Ambassador Elisabeth Tichy-Fisslberger on the decision of the Government of Sri Lanka to withdraw its co-sponsorship of Resolution 40/1 of March 2019 on ‘Promoting reconciliation, accountability and human rights in Sri Lanka’, which also incorporates and builds on preceding Resolutions 30/1 of October 2015 and 34/1 of March 2017.

     

    The Defence Ministry vehemently denies the accusations by the Human Rights Watch (HRW), which claimed that families of enforced disappearance and activists supporting them are under the microscope of the Sri Lankan Security Forces and intelligence agencies.
